A LEGENDARY FAMILY BUSINESS.

The Glaetzers are among Australia's oldest winemaking families. They arrived in Adelaide from Hamburg by steamship in 1888 and settled in the fertile Barossa Valley. As Brandenburgers, viticulture was as foreign to them as their new home—but it seemed just as promising. With courage, energy, and an abundance of pioneering spirit, they laid the foundation for what is now a legendary family business.

The current head of the family is Colin Glaetzer, one of Australia's most famous winemakers. He has contributed enormously to the viticulture of his homeland, but even more so to the continuation of the Glaetzer wine dynasty. Colin's wife, Judith, was a trained oenologist. His three sons are as well, as are two of their wives. After three decades as a winemaker at large Australian wineries, Colin decided in 1995, at the peak of his career, to found his own winery to dedicate himself to the small and the ultimately exquisite.

Super-premium wines with a distinct terroir character in strictly limited quantities are the impressive result. While Colin was personally responsible for the first vintages, his son Ben now crafts these excellent wines. Ben is one of Australia's most gifted winemakers, a co-founder of Heartland Wines and a former co-owner of Mitolo Wines. The best Shiraz grapes come from the famous Ebenezer vineyard in Barossa and are harvested from 80 to 110-year-old vines.

Yields are homeopathic. The concentration of aromas in the grapes is gigantic. Ben transforms them into a wine that is fabulously fruity, incredibly smooth, and highly elegant.
