Would you consider it very likely that the largest potato farmer in the Southern Hemisphere could produce one of the three best wines in Australia within five years by hiring a previously completely unknown winemaker just because he was his friend?

But that is exactly what happened. In 1999, Frank Mitolo had enough of potatoes, sold part of his empire, invested the proceeds in vineyards in McLaren Vale, and gave his friend Ben Glaetzer, who became Australia’s Young Winemaker of the Year five years later, the chance to show what he could do.

The very first vintages garnered very high ratings – above all the G.A.M. Shiraz. It has everything one could wish for in a top-tier wine. It is impressively opulent, truly profound, wonderfully balanced, invitingly soft, immensely spicy, and fabulously fruity! On the nose, notes of anise, nutmeg, and freshly ground pepper mingle with dark, ripe fruits.
On the palate, blueberries, blackberries, and licorice are revealed. You can enjoy this wine today or cellar it for up to ten years.

The only important thing is that you drink it at least once; otherwise, you would have missed one of the most astonishing wines in the world!
